An old village shrine… not guarded by gods, but by six cats who keep watch.

In a small village by the rice fields stands a “Cat Shrine” no one dares to tear down or disturb. Not because it is frightening… but because it is filled with a warm kind of sacredness, for six cats live there, taking turns on duty upon the shrine.

🧡 Mealtime = time for balance

No loud voices. No quarrels. If you wish to ask for a blessing, wait until the cats have finished eating 🐟.

For if a cat is still hungry… no blessing will land true. (A hungry cat isn’t ready to beam power 😼)

🕯️ On the 1st and 15th of the lunar month

People light incense and candles, set out clean water and simple offerings—no ceremonial trays, no lucky numbers—just a whisper:

“Please let my shop do well.”
“Let it rain a little so I can plant.”
“Let my child recover from fever.”
“I have a job interview today—please calm my nerves.”

😽 What do the cats do?

They do not speak. They choose—walking slowly to someone, tail held high, circling once, then sitting down. That is the answer. That is a blessing received.

🐱 The Six Guardians

Pai-Wat-Pai-Wa — shrine chair yet timid; leads the line but flees first at loud noise.
Man-Mai-Mod-Jai — the dignified approver of earnest requests.
Sa-At — inspector of offerings; decides what passes the eating standard.
Sangob — the peacekeeper; forget to silence your phone and you’ll get a gentle tap.

🐾 Sweet and sacred alternatives to offerings

1) A Cat-Blessing Dance

Like a lighthearted vow-dance—gentle and playful.

No Thai orchestra needed; humming is fine. Imitate cat moves: “flick the tail three times, lift a paw to touch the chest.” If a cat likes it and comes to you, that means “blessing received.” If the cat keeps napping, consider it a soft approve 😺

Bonus: If you dance before the shrine and Sangob taps your shoulder once, the blessing will ripen within three days.

2) A Song for the Cats

Any genre—luk-thung, pop, even rap—so long as the lyrics are clean and end with:

“May the cats who shelter us be merciful.”

Color note: If Sa-At grooms her face nearby, the blessing lands in seven days. If Man-Mai-Mod-Jai holds your gaze, consider the request formally approved.

3) Be still and stroke a head

For those who cannot speak—or are too shy—wai, stroke a cat’s head, and say inside: “Thank you, cats who understand humans when life spins too fast.” That is enough.

🐱 The Sacred Cat Shrine — Episode 2:
“Waan-Wae & Kengkang — The Cat-Blessing Dance”

On a morning when the sky looks like rain but doesn’t, Waan-Wae, a bright-faced market seller, and Kengkang, her artsy friend living in the red, walk straight to the Sacred Cat Shrine at Ban Mai Lok.

Waan-Wae: “All I ask is that my live-stream viewers don’t vanish.”
Kengkang: “I’m not here for lottery numbers—just wishing payday would outrun my hopelessness.”

They arrive… and six cats sit in a neat line, as if waiting. Pai-Wat-Pai-Wa side-eyes, Man-Mai-Mod-Jai sits tall at center, Sangob’s calm face feels like pre-authority, Sa-At sits firm like an earthen jar, and the Fragile-Lung twins observe like a tiny board.

Their pockets are empty, the phone is dead—the banking app won’t open. They meet each other’s eyes and say together:

“We’ll… do a cat-blessing dance instead!”

The legendary scene begins: Waan-Wae whirls in a folk-ballet, arms raised; Kengkang thumps the floor at each beat, declaring “Unleash the sacred cat-power!” Passersby stare as if it’s experimental theatre.

Then miracles: Man-Mai-Mod-Jai circles Waan-Wae and sits; Sangob hops into Kengkang’s lap; Sa-At sits squarely on the incense; Pai-Wat-Pai-Wa licks a paw as if to say, “Fine… I allow it.”

Result. A gentle rain falls—enough for lemon sprouts to flush. Viewers rise from 2 to 12. Kengkang receives a transfer from an old client—four months late, right on time.

They bow to the six cats. Perhaps coincidence, but deep down they already know: a sacred cat isn’t a lottery machine, but a quiet friend reminding us the world still has a place to lean—even when all we have left is a heart to offer.

🐱 The Sacred Cat Shrine — Episode 3:
“Parading the Rain Cat… in exchange for a song”

It begins with rain. A neighboring village named “Ban Din Taek Rahaeng” has been dry for months—no rain at all. Strangely, the Cat Shrine Village receives gentle showers regularly: not heavy, not flooding, just enough to soak the soil and green the fields.

The people of Din Taek Rahaeng gather and walk to the shrine with incense and candles, sending a representative—Uncle Samroeng, who has led the rain-calling cat parade 47 times (but this time there is no cat to parade!).

Uncle Samroeng: “May we borrow a cat to parade for rain for our village? Any cat will do. We could even take Sangob—I’m ready for the (gentle) paw-slap!”

The shrine is quiet. The cats lie as they were; none moves. Even the Fragile-Lung twins merely roll their eyes and go back to sleep.

Then a voice rises—Waan-Wae, appearing with a floral cat scarf: “Uncle, the shrine doesn’t lend cats easily. If you want a cat to join the rain parade, you must sing to the cats first.”

🎶 The Song of Request

The song must be sung live; its lyrics must come from the heart. Uncle Samroeng breathes in and sings with a trembling voice:

“Dear little ones, sacred cats of mine,
grant a small sprinkle so rice may shine.
Forgive this voice, not smooth like twine,
but it’s my one true heart… from a withered line.”

Silence… and then Man-Mai-Mod-Jai rises, stretches, and sits before Uncle Samroeng. Translated into Cat: “We’ll go… but I shall choose who will go.” He points his tail toward Sa-At.

🎉 The Sacred Rain-Cat Parade

Sa-At is invited onto a small palanquin—bamboo, a cat cushion, Thai-patterned cloth, and a USB fan. The people parade around the village; rice is tossed; children sing: “Good cat, dear cat—when rain falls, Auntie smiles!” Thunder rolls, and a light rain drifts down, like many hearts exhaling at once.

💧 A gentle ending

“Thank you, little cats. I have nothing to give but kindness and a song.”

The cats still do not speak—but they all look at him at the same time, as if to say: “Ask truly with your heart, and the Cat Shrine will gladly help.”
